I finished my Doctor of Musical Art degree at ASU, Masters, and Bachelor of Music degrees in my native country Serbia. During my career, I have played a number of solo and chamber recitals and recorded a CD of Marko Tajcevic's piano music. As a member of MTNA association, I have been selected to judge a variety of competitions, earned a NCTM certification, and presented on meetings and conferences. Currently, I am teaching at MCC, ASU and in My First Piano . My students are trained in classical style, based on Russian piano school I have received from my teachers. Recitals, group lessons, and competitions are part of the curriculum. I recommend that all of them participate in yearly ASP examinations. I am looking for new, mainly home schooled students available for morning and early afternoon lessons. Some evening lessons possible as well.

My name is Kayla Padgett. Music has been a part of my life since I was very young. I am a skilled private voice, piano, and french horn teacher. I graduate from ASU in Music Education with an emphasis on voice, with french horn as my second instrument. I am also an accomplished pianist, having taken lessons for 10 years and have taught for 13 years.  The progression found in my students is dramatic from one recital to the next.  Skill, musicianship, theory, sight-reading, and technique are all elements found in her private studio lessons.  Besides teaching, I sing professionally with her two sisters in a group called The Kidmans. I currently plays the French Horn for the EVMCO orchestra.Private lessons are taught out of my home with the choice of 30 minutes or 1 hour lessons. Lessons are weekly with recitals 3 times a year to give performing and stage skills to all musictians.  Recitals are just as educational and important for a musician as the music lessons themselves are. My students range in age from 6 yrs. thru adult.

Ken Noble has taught private piano, organ and keyboard lessons for 35 years in the Mesa area and loves to teach.  He has recitals 4 times a year and encourages his students to participate in the annual Piano Ensemble in Mesa and Arizona Study Program evaluations at ASU in May.  He has substitute taught music K-12 in Mesa Public Schools since 1998.  He attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Education in 1970, and a Master of Music Degree in organ performance in 1972.  He studied organ with Dr. J. J. Keeler at BYU.  He also received a piano teaching certificate from the National Piano foundation after completing a course on how to teach the Robert Pace piano method in 1977.  he is an active member of the EVMTA (East Valley Music Teachers Association) and served as president from 1986-88.  He has performed and accompanied in countless concerts in the Phoenix metro area since 1976.  He has served as organist for Mesa First Christian Church since 1986 and is a member of the local American Guild of Organists.  In 1973-75 he served in the military as pianist and administrative officer for the 7th Army Soldiers Chorus stationed in Heidelberg, Germany, which traveled and performed extensively thruout Europe.  He and his wife Janice have 6 children and reside in Mesa. 

I graduated from the Arizona State University School of Music with a degree in Music Therapy in 2010. I have been playing the piano for 25 years and I have been teaching for 12 years. My performances have included solos, duets, quartets, and accompanying small and large ensembles. My studio accepts individuals of all ages, abilities and levels. Because I have a background in Music Therapy, I am able to assess, adapt, and make each lesson tailored to the individual and their learning style.  I use a wide variety of percussion instruments as well as boards, charts, and keyboards to implement what is being taught. I am a member of the East Valley Music Teachers Association nd my students participate in  recitals, performing at the mall, and Achievement Day. Lessons are once a week and payment is due at the first lesson of each month. I found my love for piano early in my life and enjoy the privilege of having an integral part in developing a love for music in my students as they begin or continue their musical journey. I have a Bachelor of Science degree (psychology major) from Grand Canyon University and a Master of Counseling degree from Arizona State University. As a licensed professional counselor my focus has been on child and adolescent therapy. It is with great excitement that I am returning to teaching piano lessons with the opening of my own home-based studio, Bitzer Piano Studio. I have completed all 12 graded levels of the Arizona Study Program receiving outstanding performance and theory scores each year. I have also played keyboard and piano in multiple bands, including bands affiliated with Grand Canyon University, and was a lead pianist for my church for many years. I also have experience with improvisation from chord charts. Teaching piano lessons and sharing my passion for the art of piano playing is a true joy. Lessons are generally comprised of theory, technique, and repertoire. Monthly musicale (group lesson) is also provided. My students will be prepared for participation in the Arizona Study Program, though I do not require participation. I provide piano lessons to children age 4 through high school. My experience in piano playing and teaching, in addition to my experience working with children and adolescents allows me to customize each student's lesson in a way that is supportive to his or her learning style. She has led numerous choirs at Dean College and Arizona State University where she currently conducts the Women's Chorus (2018-present), serves as Chorus Master for School of Music operas, studies with Dr. David Schildkret and Dr. Jeffery Meyers, and teaches Beginning Conducting. Under her direction, the ASU Women's Chorus has sung alongside some of the finest area choirs, presented two world premieres by female composers, and worked with choral legends like Morten Lauridsen and Lori Lyford. Erica also music directs at the Sun Lakes United Church of Christ (chancel choir, bell choir) and the Fountain Hills Theatre, and is a co-founder of the ASU Women's Collaborative (facilitating collaboration between female composers and singers). ​ In 2019, Erica received ASU's GPSA Teaching Excellence Award, a $10,000 Department of State Title VIII Grant for Eastern European Research and Training, and full funding to guest conduct the Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra in workshop. She also presented a paper (“Song as Expression of Ukrainian Identity in the Ukrainian War”) at the 2019 AATSEEL-AZ Slavic Conference and led a session ("Music and Movement in the Diverse Choral Classroom") at the 2019 ACDA-AZ Student Symposium. In 2015, Erica traveled to Russia on an AISU grant to study the healing effects of Dalcroze music education on orphans suffering from Reactive Attachment Disorder. The following year, she presented an interest session on the topic at the Western Division ACDA Conference. ​ Erica holds a BM and MM in Music Theory and Composition, as well as an Ed.M. in The Arts in Education from Harvard, where she studied conducting with Dr. Andrew Clark, sang professionally with the world-renowned Harvard University Choir, conducted empirical research under Dr. Howard Gardner, presented at the Harvard Arts in Education Conference ("Bringing Classical Music from Background to Foreground"), became a semi-finalist in the Havard BRIDGE Educational Enterprise competition, and interned at the American Repertory Theatre. As a composer, arranger, and playwright, Erica has worked with Charles Strouse (composer of Annie, Bye-Bye Birdie), Richard Maltby (writer of Miss Saigon, Miss Potter), Jason Robert Brown (composer of The Last 5 Years, Songs for a New World), and the music directors of several Broadway shows (Newsies, Wicked, Cinderella, Annie, Lion King). In 2013, she was selected to participate in the ASCAP Marvin Hamlisch Broadway Conductors Program in New York City on full scholarship, which culminated in a performance with the orchestra and leads from Broadway's WICKED. Erica herself has performed lead roles in over a dozen musicals. As a vocalist and pianist, she has given recitals internationally and has sung with the Brighton Festival Chorus and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, the Utah Symphony Chorus, the ASU Chamber Singers, and the Tuscany International Children’s Chorus (among others). She has also sung as a soloist and choir member in Italy (1999), England (2007; full scholarship), Ukraine (2008-09), Bulgaria (2015; AISU grant), and the Republic of Georgia (2018; Department of State award). ​​ Erica started studying piano and wrote her first rondo at age 6, and she composed her first full-length musical at age 12 (produced at two Utah theaters). She began her choral journey in the Utah Children's Choir (under the baton of Kay Asay, Doreen Rao, Craig Jessop, and others), and she is passionate about music education. From 2014-2017, Erica developed an innovative and collaborative performing arts department at the American International School of Utah as the founding Performing Arts Director and a member of senior management. Within a matter of months, the her six choirs had begun winning statewide competitions and receiving superior ratings at state festivals. They were also featured in PBS specials, Shaun Barrowes music videos and livestreams, and concerts alongside such icons as Kurt Bestor, Lexi Walker, Dallyn Vail Bayles, and Ivan Rutherford. ​ Erica's choral compositions have been commissioned by choirs across America, and her first opera won the international Opera-in-a-Month competition sponsored by VocalWorks. Her chamber works have won the Chanticleer Student Composer and Longy Graduation Composition Competitions and have been performed under the direction of Sam Pilafin (founder of the Empire Brass Quintet); Steinway Artist, Walter Cosand; Longitude conductor, Paul Brust; and St. Lawrence String Quartet cellist, Christopher Costanza. In 2000, Erica's full-length musical, Dancing Shoes, was awarded “Best Play of the Year” at a Utah theater, and four years later, her children’s musical, Between the Lines, placed first in the VIP Arts Competition. Her most recent musical, The Weaver of Raveloe, received both a developmental reading at the 2012 New York Musical Theater Festival and a 2014 world premiere at the American Repertory Theater’s second stage, OBERON. Erica currently publishes with LazyBee Scripts, and her shows have been performed throughout the US, the UK, and as far away as Germany, Australia, and Hong Kong. ​ Current research interests include the cognitive science behind audience perception of conducting gesture, the effects of Dalcroze music education on orphans with Reactive Attachment Disorder, and the lost history and music of the early 20th century Ukrainian composer Stefania Turkewich.

Prior to relocating to Arizona in 2000, Andrew was on staff at St. Paul’s School and Concord Community Music School, both in New Hampshire, where he taught piano for 12 years. He is a member of the College of Examiners of the Royal Conservatory of Canada. Andrew O’Brien is on the faculty of Scottsdale Community College, where he teaches piano and music history. He also teaches piano at Mesa Community College. He performs in the Chaparral Music Fest in Prescott, AZ. He is a founding member of the Seventh Roadrunner Ensemble. Andrew has appeared in recital at Boston College, Dartmouth College, University of New Hampshire and as soloist with the Nashua (NH), North Valley and San Tan (AZ) Chamber Orchestras, and with the Scottsdale Concert Band. Andrew received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance at Arizona State University where he studied with Robert Hamilton. He began piano study in the Chicago area at age seven, taking lessons from Nancy Burghardt and Amo Cappelli. He received a Bachelor of Music degree from the Chicago Musical College of Roosevelt University where he studied with Robert McDowell and Pawel Checinski. Andrew received a Master of Music degree from the New England Conservatory, studying piano with Gabriel Chodos and chamber music with Benjamin Zander. Hi! I am Hollie Lunt and I have loved teaching children to play the piano for over 25 years. I have also accompanied church and school choirs as well as instrumental and vocal soloists. I earned a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education with a music emphasis from NAU and a Masters degree in Curriculum & Instruction from American College of Education. Being a member of the Desert Valley Teachers Association since 2003 has given me many opportunities for professional growth, continuing education, and leadership opportunities. I currently serve as the Vice President and was a past board member and chairman of our ensemble concerts. This benefits my students and allows them to participate in fun and educational events. My goal as a teacher is to provide a well-rounded, quality music education to each of my students which includes history, science, foreign language, math and. I am 16 years old, and I'm homeschooled. I'm currently taking classes at CGCC and I take my education, as well as music, very seriously.I started taking private piano lessons at the age of 6, and since then I have just loved piano, violin, Theory, and everything to do with music! I started private lessons for violin at the age of 7. I played in Metropolitan Youth Symphony from the age of 9 to 13, and I now play with Youth Symphony of the Southwest. I also sing, so I can definitely be of assistance if accompaniment is your interest.I have been teaching for five years, and have always loved helping students discover their talents. I charge $15 dollars per 1/2 hour lesson, and students usually have 1 lesson a week. I have afternoon lesson times available as well as mornings.I think it really helps student's confidence and skill to perform for others, so I hold recitals twice a year in the Fall and Spring. I majored in piano performance in college and have been teaching for 20 years to children and adults of all ages and abilities. I have and continue to perform and accompany all over the Valley for churches, high school and collegiate choirs, the Phoenix Girls Chorus, and more. I have taught piano in the area for 25 years. I achieved a Bachelor of Music degree in Organ Performance from ASU, graduating summa cum laude. As well as teaching piano, I am organist at a church in Paradise Valley.

My name is Angie Chesley and I have been teaching piano and voice for the past 14 years, both at The Music Store and in my private home studio. I enjoy teaching students of all ages and love to watch them succeed.  My philosophy is that music should be enjoyable as well as educational.  I focus on the technical aspects of learning music, but I feel that it is very important that the student enjoy the music that they are creating. My love of music and the arts began very early in my life as I watched my Father play the piano and sing professionally with various bands.  When I was older I performed regularly with my Father in Nashville, TN near the Grand Old Opry at Shoney’s Inn and other venues.  I grew up taking weekly piano lessons from my Grandmother who was a music teacher in demand, and dancing with the dance company where my Mother was a dance teacher. In High School I performed with the top choirs and was one of the accompanists for the choirs.  I attended BYU-Idaho where I was a music major and accompanied singers as well as sang in the choirs.  I have also been in many Broadway productions as a soloist, in the chorus, and in the dance team. I have been singing professionally with the band “The Swingtips” for many years and have sung on many of their CD’s.  I am also a veteran in the recording studio and have done many professional recordings as a singer. In recent years I have developed a love for jazz piano and have studied for the past 6 years with Steve Culp who is a professional jazz pianist and is a member of the band “Turning Point”, and with Barb Catlin who is also a professional jazz pianist and is the head of the Jazz Department as Mesa Community College.  I have had the opportunity to perform professionally with the MCC jazz combo at the Tempe Arts Festival and look forward to many more performing opportunities. I am currently finishing my music education degree with Ottawa University and plan to continue with my masters. I am the mother of 2 wonderful boys ages 12 and 5 and love to share my love of the arts with my boys.  

 Hello!  My name is Marcy Trupe, I'm a professional educator and musician with 41 years of teaching experience in elementary education and music. I taught in  Mesa Schools for 22 years, have a BA Degree in Elementary Education with a Minor in Music, and received my Master's Degree from Northern Arizona University.      My piano studio is located in my home in Mesa and I teach on my Baldwin Grand, which my students enjoy playing. My goal is to instill the love of music in each of my students. I'm a member of the East Valley Music Teachers Association, which enables my students the opportunities to perform in recitals and other enjoyable events.   My piano instruction began in grade school and continued through college. I've held various positions as Baldwin Piano Studio teacher, church pianist, organist and choir director throughout the years. I'm presently accepting students from beginning to intermediate levels. The Piano Teacher: As a graduate of Northern Arizona Universtiy's wonderful music program, I've developed a deep love for sharing the benefits of performing arts through piano education. I began teaching in the east valley in 2011 and have truly enjoyed  leading students to achieving their many different goals. To develop my teaching skills, I continue my own education by studying piano through Mesa Community College and attending various teacher workshops and conferences throughout the year. My home studio is in Mesa near Higley and Southern. Lessons are either 45-minutes or 1-hour, depending on the level and age of the student.  The Program: At the beginning of each semester, we will review the students goals for piano study. In each students personalized study program, we cover piano repertoire, music theory, technique, music history, ear training, musicianship, composition, sight-reading and sight-singing, world music, and collaboration with other musicians/artists. In order to give students a greater understanding of how musicians contribute to society, I provide both traditional and innovative performance opportunities. This creates a positive space students to inspire others with their art.  What to Expect: I strive to provide a well-rounded, personalized, piano education program from beginning to intermediate levels. Because I am a Arizona State Music Teachers Association member, students can participate in various competitions, festivals and evaluations (like the Arizona Study Program). My name is Nicci (pronounced Nicky).  I am excited to be able to give back part of the wonderful gift I have been given.  I teach from my home which is conveniently located near Country Club & University in Mesa. I have lived most of my life in Mesa, Arizona and I love it here. I have been married for 9 years to the love of my life, and together we have 5 beautiful children. Music has always been an important part of my life. There are two women who have greatly influenced my love for music, and the development of my musical talents. The first is my grandmother. She gave me my first piano lesson when I was 5 years old and I was so excited! The second is the piano teacher that taught me through most of my youth. She always encouraged me to teach, and thanks to her inspiration, example and guidance I have finally taken the plunge! Although I have never played at Carnegie Hall, I have had the privilege to play for most of my adult life in various callings at church and as an accompanist for vocal and instrumental soloists and choirs. I am a private homeschool teacher with a degree in elementary education and a minor in music. I have been teaching music lessons for 18 years, and studied piano, violin, and music theory and composition at the collegiate level. I am comfortable working with all ages, as long as the student is willing to practice! It's never too late to learn an instrument.

Originally from Detroit, Michigan, Carrie found a love for playing music at the age of two on her family's piano. She then began her studies through the public school strings program. Mrs. Caruso was awarded scholarships to attend Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp for three years. Carrie received the National School Orchestra Award in 1989 for her outstanding performance, leadership, and contribution as Concert Master of the Walled Lake Western High School Orchestra, and nominee for the John Phillip Sousa National Band Award. She also participated in the Walled Lake Western High Symphonic Band, Marching Band, and Jazz Ensemble, performing on alto and baritone saxophone, as well as percussion, concert and show choir. Mrs. Caruso held the position as Drum Major in 1988-1989. Carrie began teaching privately in the Detroit area in 1988, then later relocated in Arizona in 1994, where she performed as a freelance violinist throughout the state. A former student of Dr. Frank Spinosa, Professor of Violin, Arizona State University, Carrie also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Ottawa University. She has performed with ensembles including, The Redford Symphony, Ferris State University Orchestra, Eastern Michigan University Honor Orchestra, Arizona State University Symphony Orchestra. Mrs. Caruso co-founded the ensembles; Muse Violin & Cello Duo, Deux Femme, Auricle Guitar & violin duo, Epos, and Urban Quartet.  Carrie has shared stages with grammy nominee William Eaton and the William Eaton Ensemble, DJ Radar worlds top turntablist (Spin Magazine), Kurt Bestor, Donna Summer, John Fogerty, Seal and many more. Mrs. Caruso arranges repertoire and performs first violin for Urban Quartet, performing for distinguished audiences such as Lexus, Revlon, Redkin, Merryl Lynch, General Mills, NFL Team Owners, Liberty Mutual, and many others. The Urban Quartet commissioned, and performed the world premiere of a new work entitled, "STIFF" by Michael Schelle, composer-in-residence, Butler University. Carrie has recorded violin sessions for several artists and producers, as well as national commercial spots such as Arizona Music Project, commissioned by the Arizona Office of Tourism, Catholics Come Home (aired for President Barack Obama at the White House with Pope Benedict), Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), and Grand Canyon University. Mrs. Caruso performs with her modern violin crafted by Albert Topa, electric violin by Zeta, bow by Alex Hendruk. Mrs. Caruso takes part in the music ministry at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Tempe, Arizona and resides in Gilbert, Arizona with her husband and three children.  

   I started my piano teaching career when I was in high school.  Sharing my musical knowledge with my students is a joy and brings me a great deal of pleasure.  I  teach all ages - children, teenagers, and adults.  I will tailor the lessons according to your wishes, as you desire. Ms. Lacy currently runs an online piano studio. She started playing the piano when she was 6 years old. After becoming too accomplished for her first teacher she moved on to more advanced classes and joined a piano team. She performed and competed at Northern Arizona University at the age of 17. As a professional Ms. Lacy actively participates in DVMTA (Dessert Valley Music Teachers Association) which is a local professional chapter dedicated to excellence in teaching music.

A native of Arizona, Kathryn Rood's degrees in piano performance are from Arizona State University. Her professional career includes pianist for the Lyric Opera Theater at ASU, class and touring performing pianist for Ballet Arizona, then eight years as pianist with the Phoenix Symphony. An overuse playing injury to her left hand gave pause to performing but opened a wonderful opportunity of teaching Kindermusik for the ASU Piano Prep Program for fifteen years. It was during this time she collaborated with Mandarin Cheung-Yuen and Henry Rose to form the Young Artist Committee to foster positive performance opportunities for Arizona piano students and teachers. This collaboration led to the forming of the Rose-n-Rood Piano Duo for several years of concerts and two cd recordings. Kathryn reisdes in the Dobson Ranch area of Mesa where she has maintained a private piano home studio since 1980. In 1998 Kathryn began entering her students in the ABRSM practical and thory exams. Ms. Rood has received the permanent professional certificate from MTNA and is a memeber of DVMTA.

I am married with 3 children. Ages 12-21.  I lived in Prescott for 13 years where I accompanied for my Junior and HS school choirs and played flute in the band. After High School I moved to Mesa. I work in a small studio in East Mesa where we teach different instruments and ensembles. I attended Richard Strauss Konservatorium in Munich, Germany with emphasis on Church Music. I retired from 30 years in church music filling different positions in Germany, Michigan and mostly here in the East Valley. Karissa Thomson, flutist, praised for her rich sound, impeccable technique, energy, and professionalism, is an active musician, soloist, and teacher in the Phoenix Metropolitan area. Since beginning her studies at the age of nine, she has held principal positions in the Metropolitan Youth Symphony, the Phoenix Youth Symphony, the Brigham Young University Symphony, the BYU Philharmonic Orchestra, and the BYU Chamber Orchestra. Performance with these ensembles provided opportunities to perform across the world, including the United States, Italy, Hungary, Slovenia, and Turkey. As a concerto competition winner she has soloed with the Four Seasons Orchestra, the BYU Symphony Orchestra, and the BYU Philharmonic Orchestra. In competition, she has been a finalist in the Utah and Arizona MTNA Young Artist Divisions, an alternate in the National Flute Association Orchestral Masterclass Competition, and a finalist in the Da Capo Alliance Paris Flute Class. In addition to her orchestral and solo endeavors, Karissa is a committed educator; her students consistently perform well in regional and state level competitions. Apart from maintaining her private studio, she has been featured as a guest lecturer and ensemble coach at the Arizona Flute Society Summer camp as well as a chamber ensemble flute coach at Mesa Community College. Intent on instilling a passion for music in youth, she has also held a position as a camp counselor at the BYU Summer Music Festival. Advocating music and music education for both children and adults is one of her long-standing passions. I have experience teaching violinists from age 3 to age 80, teaching them how to hold the bow to preparing them for college auditions. I received my B.M. in Violin Performance from Utah State University where I studied with Rebecca McFaul and the Fry Street Quartet. I have eight years of teaching experience, including as adjunct faculty at USU. I studied Suzuki pedagogy with Cathy Lee and Allen Lieb. As a violinist, I have performed with the Utah Festival Opera, the Logan Quintet, East Valley Millenial Choir and Orchestra, and the American Festival Choir. I am passionate about teaching and the role of music in the world. Music can and should be fun as well as teaching you the vital skills of focus, resilience, and compassion.

I love playing the piano, and hope that each of my students develops that same love. My lessons include not only learning pieces, but study in music theory, ear training, sight-reading, accompanying, and basic music history. I use a variety of activities both on- and off-the bench to keep students engaged and having fun. Technology and games go hand-in-hand with scales and sonatinas.   Stephanie Jones is a graduate of Northern Arizona University where she earned her Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance graduating Magna Cum Laude in 2005. She was the student of Dr. Frank Scott.  Ms. Jones studied Suzuki Pedagogy with Diana Galindo and has earned her Suzuki Certification through Book 3. Ms. Jones has taught students of various ages using both Suzuki and Traditional methods.  She has experience as both a private and group lesson piano teacher. Ms. Jones currently resides in Gilbert, Arizona where she currently nurtures a successful private studio.   Ms. Jones encourages her students to take advantage of performance opportunities. Dr. Nadia Feeken is an accomplished performer and an exceptional teacher. A native of Tianjin China, Nadia began her piano study at the age of five and attended the Tianjin Conservatory of Music when she was twelve. She came to the United States in 2000 to continue her music education. After receiving her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Piano Performance, she received her Doctorate degree of Musical Arts in piano performance in 2012 from Arizona State University. Nadia came to Arizona in 2006 when she was awarded a class piano teaching assistantship, Special Talent Award, as well as the Jean Wong Award. An active performer, Nadia has had solo performances in many cities in China and the United States, as well as Australia. In 2001, she performed in Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center in New York City. She also enjoys collaborating with other musicians and exploring varieties of ensembles and new music. Aside from performing, Nadia thoroughly enjoys teaching piano. She has been a private piano teacher for over ten years. She is able to connect with each student, help them open up their imagination and define their musical expressions. Her students have received the highest rating in Arizona Study Program. Her advanced students have won national competitions and have been accepted to the music program at ASU.

Christy Porter is excited to be part of your child's music training! Miss Porter grew up in Arizona and attended college at ASU where she graduated with a degree in Music Education. She also received a Master's Degree from NAU. Miss Porter taught music for Mesa Public Schools from 1994-2007, during which time she served on the music curriculum development committee and as the organizer for the Mesa Young People's Orchestra and the Junior High Festival Orchestra. I offer individualized instruction within students’ own homes for piano, voice, and theory/composition. I have 10 years of teaching experience along with extensive vocal and piano training at Arizona State University. This includes performing leading roles in operas and musical theater productions, singing in choral ensembles including ASU’s prestigious Chamber Singers, and being coached in theory, composition, and conducting. I have worked with many teens in preparation for Regionals and All-State choir auditions. I have over 55 piano students in beginner to high intermediate levels. I am classically trained and an experienced teacher, having taught piano lessons full time since 2005, first at Brindley's Music Center for 10 years and currently teach at the new San Marcos Music Academy in Chandler. Before teaching full time, I taught part-time for over 20 years. I hold two piano recitals per year at My First Piano in Mesa.  EDUCATION I received my master's degree in Piano Performance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1986 and my bachelor's degree in Piano Performance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1983.  EXPERIENCE - TEACHING My first experience in teaching  piano students began in 1983, and I have consistently taught since then.  I was fortunate to be awarded a teaching assistantship in group piano during my study at the University of Illinois.  In addition to teaching group piano to college music majors, part of the teaching assistantship involved giving private lessons to children and adults.  Dr. James Lyke, who has written many books on teaching piano, was the professor who directed my teaching.  After receiving my master's degree, I returned to Madison.  For the next six years I taught piano students in addition to maintaining a full-time office job.  Early in 1993 I began teaching piano full-time.  My lessons generally include the use of a method book, technic book and theory book.  Students also work on piano solos in various styles, from classical to jazz and pop.  EXPERIENCE - PLAYING I maintained my own level of playing by accompanying for University of Wisconsin-Madison music students.  I played for violin, viola and cello students as well as clarinet and flute students and performed in numerous recitals.  Teachers of some of these UW-Madison students include Vartan Manoogian, David Perry, Sally Chisholm, Tyrone Greive, Parry Karp, Uri Vardi, Linda Bartley and Stephanie Jutt. 

A Native Russian, Natalya Thran, received her formal music education in the former Soviet Union. She earned her Master’s degree in Music with Honors from Tashkent State Conservatory and her Master’s in Arts from the University of Nevada, Reno. Natalya came to the USA after winning a competition in the former USSR. The prize of the competition was a scholarship to study in the USA. Natalya Thran is a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music by MTNA and currently serves as the President of the Arizona State Music Teachers Association. Natalya Thran is an experienced independent piano teacher of all ages and levels of students. Her students have won numerous state and local competitions in the states of Nevada and Arizona. She is a frequent adjudicator and clinician in Nevada and Arizona. Her piano duet students represented the state of Arizona in the MTNA Southwest Division Competitions. Currently, she resides with her family in Gilbert, Arizona.

José Salazar started his musical education in Aguascalientes Mexico at the Center for Musical Studies Manuel M. Ponce. He then continued at Arizona State University studying under Regents Professor Caio Pagano where he received his Bachelors in Piano Performance. Throughout his Undergraduate and Graduate studies he has performed internationally in the US and Mexico constantly. In his career he has participated in many concerts and festivals, which lead to collaboration and master classes with world-renowned musicians such as Vadym Kholodenko and Leslie Howard. He continues to perform chamber music and as a soloist and is involved with local organizations such as the Phoenix Chamber Music Society.

Kalynn Fleischman is a piano teacher and composer with over seven years’ experience composing music and over a decade studying piano. He has participated in numerous composition competitions and his works have been performed in both Europe and the United States. Dr. Janet Norman, originally from Cleveland, Ohio, received the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Arizona State University in 2009.  She received her Master of Music degrees from Arizona State University and Bowling Green State University in Ohio and her Bachelor of Music degree from Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, OH.  She has actively participated in and directed professional piano pedagogy events, master classes and conferences, including chairing the Arizona State Music Teachers Association conference in June of 2004 and 2007.  She currently teaches theory, piano class and applied piano at Grand Canyon University.  Norman also teaches private lessons at Scottsdale Community College. Her performances include solo recitals in Italy, New York, Ohio, and Arizona.Honors for her performances include third place in the Klatzkin Piano Competition, the 1999 inaugural ASU Contemporary Music Society Competition for performers, a two-time winner of the Three Arts Club of Lakewood, OH in 1987 and 1988, and the 1986 Baldwin-Wallace College/Conservatory Concerto Competition. She is also a nationally certified member of MTNA(Music Teachers National Association).

Crystal Gheen studied violin under Dr. Jonathan Swartz and Dr. Katie McLin at Arizona State University where she earned her Bachelors degree in Music Edcuation with an emphasis in Strings.  While attending  ASU, she was an active member in the ASU Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra.  While she played in the ASU Symphony, she accompanied such artists as Regina Carter, Daniel Bernard Romain and Phillip Glass.  She has also played violin and viola in the ASU Chamber Quartet program where she had the wonderful opportunity to work with members from the Julliard String Quartet and The St. Lawrence String Quartet.  She also was an ASU orchestra scholarship recipient from 2004-2007.  While at ASU, she taught classes and private lessons in the highly acclaimed String Project.  In 2008, she was chosen to represent the ASU String Project at the American String Teacher's Association conference held in New Mexico. Crystal Gheen began her violin studies at the age of nine.  Growing up, she excelled in her music studies and became a member of the Metropolitan Youth Symphony and the Phoenix Youth Symphony Guild.  In high school, she participated in Regional and All State festivals on violin and viola.  In 2003, she held the principal viola position in her region and then went on to hold the concert master position in violin the next year.  While in high school, she also was a member of the Mesa Community College Chamber music program and the Scottsdale Community College Symphony.  She has also played back up for Marc Anthony, Marcos Antonio Solis & Laura Pausini.  She has played for various churches, choirs,  and local folk/rock bands.  Ms. Gheen has been teaching private violin, viola & piano lessons for eight years.  She has maintained a private studio ranging in ages 4-64 and has taught beginner through advanced levels.  Her students are leaders in their school orchestras and continue to attain seats in Regional and All State Orchestras around the state.  She prides herself on being an innovative and creative teacher. 

      Sherin Moustafa is a multifaceted and accomplished pianist and instructor based out of the Phoenix metro area. Born in Egypt with Taiwanese heritage, Sherin speaks fluent Chinese and English, and is competent in Japanese, Arabic, German, Italian, and French. Her cultural background allows her to develop a worldview and an appreciation for both western and eastern music. Not surprisingly, Sherin fell in love with music at a young age because it has both the creative and serene elements that she saw in herself. Sherin is the co-owner of Music Lessons Arizona in South Tempe, offering private piano instructions, group instructions and instrumental/vocal collaboration. She has a master’s degree in Collaborative Piano Performance and a bachelor’s degree in Music Therapy from Arizona State University. Sherin serves as an adjunct faculty at Central Arizona College, where she creates lesson plans for adult group piano classes and private piano instructions for both non-music and music majors. Sherin also serves as the organist at Chandler United Methodist Church. She is a versatile pianist specializing in classical, music theatre, contemporary and other popular genres, and is often invited to perform at special events because of her ability to provide a captivating performance. Her passion for music and vibrant personality not only make her a mesmerizing performer, but also an effective piano teacher. Sherin has received awards from piano competitions and was a recipient of the Neely Music Talent Scholarship. She was also the keyboardist of 2015 Zoni award winning cast of Dreamgirls. Sherin has performed on numerous occasions at ASU's Katzin Concert Hall, Organ Hall, Recital Hall, Gammage and Kerr Cultural Center, Chandler Center for the Arts and Mesa Arts Center both as a soloist, and a collaborative pianist. Sherin served as an adjunct faculty and collaborative pianist at Mesa Community College and collaborative pianist/co-director at Perry High School. With Sherin's assistance, Perry High School concert choir achieved the Superior Award at the 2011 Heritage Festival. As a result, the choir was invited to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City in March of 2012. Under Sherin’s tutelage, more than 96% of her piano students have been awarded superior honors through the Arizona Study Program, and selected students have won local piano competitions. Sherin is a proud member of East Valley Music Teacher Association (EVMTA), Arizona State Music Teacher Association (ASMTA) and Music Teacher National Association (MTNA). She is currently the Vice President of EVMTA, and the chair of the Composers Celebration Concert, a fundraising event for EVMTA in which students perform for the open public. Sherin has a passion for teaching and is committed to developing excellence from her piano students.

Dr. Jessica Yam received her education from New England Conservatory, Eastman School of Music, San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and Arizona State University.  She has a particular affinity for Chopin and was one of two national recipients of the Chopin Foundation of the United States Scholarship in the early 2000s.  Her teaching is primarily based on the Russian school, which has been fundamental in her training, and she has taught for over 15 years.  In addition to instructing preparatory level students, she teaches at ASU and has also taught as piano professor at Southwestern College.  She currently serves on the ASMTA Board of Directors and is the chairman of the 2016 ASMTA Conference.

Born in the small town of Marion, Alabama, Mary moved to Birmingham at age 11 to attend the Alabama School of Fine Arts as a piano major. While living and studying at ASFA, she won awards in piano competitions from local to international levels – even going on to compete in the national round of the Music Teachers National Association Senior Duet Competition. At the age of 15, she debuted with orchestra, performing Grieg Piano Concerto in A Minor. Mary completed her Bachelors of Music Degree in Piano Performance at the University of Houston under pedagogue, Nancy Weems. She then went on to complete her Masters of Music in Collaborative Piano at Arizona State University under the tutelage of Dr. Andrew Campbell. Mary is currently a doctoral student in collaborative piano at ASU. She held the position of Collaborative Piano Teaching Assistant for four years there. Mary has participated and performed in summer festivals such as Brevard Music Center, International Institute for Young Musicians, New Orleans Piano Institute, Eastern Music Festival, Texas Music Festival, and Fresh Inc Festival. Mary is a passionate teacher who champions the positive and far-reaching benefits music education has for all people, and places a special emphasis on collaborative piano. Her students have won highest honors in the Arizona Study Program Competition. She is an active performer and collaborator at ASU and in the greater Phoenix area, and is a regular commissioner of new works with the Rogue Trio – an innovative violin-saxophone-piano ensemble.

Hailed for his “breathtaking virtuosity” (Albuquerque Journal) and his “rhythmic integrity, singing tone quality, and refinement” (Clavier), Swedish-American pianist Elias-Axel Pettersson has established himself as a formidable soloist, chamber musician, and pedagogue. A Mason & Hamlin Concert Artist, he has garnered prizes on the national and international level, and has been heard on national radio. Pettersson has collaborated with numerous artists, including violinists Krzysztof Zimowski, David Felberg, and Guillaume Tardif, violist Henk Guittart, Cantor Josh Perlman, and tenor Michiel Schrey. In 2008, Pettersson formed Duo Giocoso with French violinist Roland Arnassalon; in 2017, he formed Æterna Sirius with pianist Jessica Yam. Pettersson also champions contemporary composers such as Alan Belkin, Baptiste Cathelin, Alvin Curran, Drea Pressley Tischhauser, and Altin Volaj. Pettersson premiered Petroglyph for Piano (2011) by New Mexican composer Michael Mauldin, and performed in a recording of Gabriel Madden’s La Herse (2009), featuring a rare Sauter 1/16-microtonal piano. A frequent performer, lecturer, and masterclass teacher throughout the USA, Canada, and Sweden, Pettersson has also been a jury member for regional and national competitions, including the Canadian Music Competition and Prix Opus, among others. He has three albums on the Axel Records label, featuring works ranging from Bach and Beethoven to Janáček and Carl Vine. Pettersson is Artistic Director of Southwest Piano Festival, a summer festival he founded in 2015, and Director of Program Development for Arizona Piano Institute. He has studied with Paul Stewart, Sergei Babayan, Larissa Dedova, Douglas Humpherys, and Maribeth Gunning; he also played for André Watts, Jean-Bernard Pommier, Arnaldo Cohen, Pavel Nersessian, Dina Joffe, and the Guarneri String Quartet. Pettersson holds a doctorate from the Université de Montréal. Pettersson is a recent transplant to the Valley and is currently accepting private students. Please contact him for an audition.

Houston Nelson is a classically trained pianist and piano teacher with over 10 years of teaching experience. He actively performs and has served as a judge for school piano competitions across the Phoenix Metropolitan area. His students span a wide range of ages and abilities and perform routinely at events and recitals.

Joanna Banta recently relocated to Hanford, California and has moved to a (primarily) online lesson format, where she successfully teaches Phoenix area residents piano and voice. She returns to the Valley monthly to continue serving as the Associate Conductor at Valley Christian High School and provide in-person private voice and piano lessons to her studio. Joanna Banta graduated from Corona del Sol High School in Tempe, and was a Regional and All-State Choir participant her freshman through senior years. Mrs. Banta studied piano/voice at  Arizona State University on a full ride academic and choral scholarship, and graduated with both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Vocal Performance. Mrs. Banta offers online lessons and once a month in-person lessons at Gethsemane Church Tempe, along with recitals each semester. When she isn’t teaching her private students and accompanying the high school choirs, Mrs. Banta serves regularly at local churches and retirement communities.  Beyond her musical activities, Mrs. Banta is married and has two children.  

As a Chief Instructor for Elements Music LLC, I taught both group classes on keyboards and private piano lessons beginning in 2003 (16yrs.). With Elements, I was responsible for creating beginner-intermediate arrangements of top 40 hits as well as the most popular Movie, Video Game, and TV Themes of the day. To promote our unique sticker method as well as music education, I performed over 100 demonstrations at school assemblies around the school districts in the valley annually for many years. I now teach privately full-time both in group lessons and private. In 2005, I graduated the ASU Barrett Honors College Summa Cum Laude. My primary instructor since 2000 has been master pianist Larry Clapp, who sadly passed away in November 2017. He was always the great inspiration in my choosing to pursue a career in piano. I have been a member of the MTNA EVMTA and PMTA for 10 years and consistently enroll students in the ASP state exams. This year, 3 of my students passed the most advanced L12 (High School Senior) level proficiency. I hold 2 annual recitals and regularly participate in MTNA events. Under Radmila Stojanovic Kiriluk and Ruth Yandell, I acquired both my of my CCL certifications in Beginner and Intermediate Piano Pedagogy at MCC and continue to maintain a consistent studio of 20-30 students. Since having our beautiful daughter Arja, I am primarily a traveling teacher, but lessons in the home are still available. I'll be looking forward to teaching your eager students soon!

Dr. Jeff has graduate degrees in music from ASU and is a professional composer/songwriter. His music has been performed locally by community ensembles such as the AZ Wind Symphony and nationwide. He is currently working on a project for scratch DJ and 2 pianos called “Reveling in Ravel.” As an instrumentalist, Jeff has played clarinet since 1993 and piano/organ since 1999. The other woodwinds are strong secondary instruments and he plays different wind instruments in the AZ Wind Symphony for each concert. His students’ ages range from 4 to 65+ and he teaches all styles of music following a humanistic approach. Students learn music how they want to learn, the way they learn best, while playing music that interests them. Jeff encourages higher level thinking skills and creativity in lessons. He identifies talent, skills, and works to sharpen or add more skills in reading, improvising, spelling chords, technique, musicality, reading from a fake book, accompanying, ear training, and even writing your own music. Since Jeff served as a teaching assistant at ASU for 4 years he can easily prepare high school students interested in pursuing music in college.

Private piano and violin lessons for all ages. (I also teach beginning cello, viola, bass, and guitar.) My studio is located at Baseline and Power Roads. In rare cases, I will come to you for an extra $60/month. Weekly lessons are 30, 45, or 60 minutes long (depending on skill level, age, and experience), and I give prizes, rewards, incentives for practicing and achievement (Music needs to be FUN). They want to "play" piano/violin, not "practice" piano/violin. Unfortunately, playing requires enough practice to get to the point where you can just read and play music, or just sit down and make up your own music. (Just like it takes years of learning to read and write before you can sit down and enjoy reading the Harry Potter or Twilight series.)That being said, here are things that work well for most people:Routine: If you can find a time for practicing that works on a consistent basis, this is the ideal situation. Some people practice before they go to school, some practice right when they get home from school and before homework [homework will get done no matter what because it has to, but practicing doesn't "have" to get done, so if it's the last thing of the day, most people are too tired to do it.] So in general, the earlier the better, although that's not the case for everybody. You'll have to see what works best for you. Again, I emphasize that it should NOT be the last thing you do for the day. If you're tired, and all you want to do is relax, anything you do besides relaxing is going to be un-enjoyable. And if it becomes the routine, you'll eventually start to resent practicing, not because you don't want to play/learn music, but because you're associating music with being tired and everything else that goes along with trying to wind down at the end of the day. In rare cases, I've seen the opposite be true, where practicing helps the child unwind from the day - but that is extremely rare. Environment: The ideal environment varies from person to person - some need absolute quiet and isolation, with no one else in the room to distract them. Some need the parent sitting in the same room so that they don't feel alone, or even sitting with them on the piano bench helping them practice. Others can't have their parents near them because they feel like they're being watched/controlled/judged/et cetera and it makes them anxious and resentful. Etc. Etc. The dynamics between parent/child, sibling/sibling, and student/practice are extremely varied. Just pay attention to whatever your kid is presenting, and don't hesitate to ask for suggestions. Punishment/Reward: Practicing should never be a punishment. But it can be a "chore". If you do chore charts, like cleaning your room, taking out the garbage, etc., practicing can be on the chore chart too. And then they can mark off their chores as they finish them, and if they don't get their chores done, they don't get to go play with friends, watch TV, play video games, or whatever fun thing is happening that day. On the flip side, if they do get all their chores done, they can go play with friends, or they can go play video games, or watch TV, etc. (As a side note, if there's something genuinely unique or special happening, never use "you didn't practice, so you don't get to go to this" or practicing and music will immediately and suddenly become something the kid resents.)Then, you can also have an overall reward system, like, if they do all their chores every day for the whole week, or the whole month, then they get a treat (i.e. a new piece of clothing, a new toy, a new app for their tablet, an ice cream, a trip to the movies, a play date with friends, a lunch date with a parent --- whatever will excite and motivate the individual kid.)You can also set up a point system - they get 1 point for every day they practice or 1 point for every ten minutes they practice, and then have different rewards/prizes for certain amounts of points - 300 points = xbox game, lego set, trip to Castles and Coasters, etc. Or 1 point = $1, so they can save up points and then buy whatever they want with the points they've earned - remember, 1 point can be whatever you make it - ten minutes, thirty minutes, whatever. The point system for time practiced has very tangible results - it's not an all or nothing system. Every time they practice they're earning points toward a "big" goal, like a lego set, or video game, or a sleepover, or something that they wouldn't otherwise get. And make sure that whatever system you use is only used for music, to make sure that it's a reward they wouldn't otherwise get. For some people, it helps to set a timer to let them know how long they need to sit at the piano. Or a stopwatch that will keep track of how long they practiced, then they can add that time to their points chart. I've seen parents use practicing as a way to get out of doing things the kids don't want to do, such as, "If you're practicing the piano, you don't have to be doing yard work. But as soon as you stop practicing, you're joining the rest of the family and doing yard work/housework." You'd be surprised at how much time kids can spend on the piano when it gets them out of cleaning the bathroom or doing dishes. Another straightforward way to motivate kids to practice is having them earn electronics time by practicing. So many minutes of practice equals so minutes on their electronics. With these methods, they could easily run out of things to practice and get bored, but that can be a good thing - after they've practiced their normal lesson stuff, playing around on the piano, being creative, making up songs and just seeing how different things sound can inspire them not only to grow talents they didn't even know they had but also to enjoy playing more because "playing" and "practicing" are two very different things. If all we ever get to do is the admittedly sometimes frustrating practicing stuff, it can become stale and joyless. But if you're sitting at the piano longer and just goofing around and creating stuff, that creative part of the brain gets sparked and it can reignite the passion and excitement for music. So while it is necessary to insist on proper practicing, you do also want to encourage that playful part too. A good general rule for how much a student should be practicing is this: practice five days a week, each song/scale/item three to five times each day. (Of course this varies with age and skill level. Every person is different and I will help them figure out the best ways for them to practice.) I also recommend students listen to classical music each week, and/or the CD that correlates with their music curriculum. The more they listen to (and move to) music, the better. You can set up a similar reward system for listening to classical music too. Or just put it on while you're driving around in the car, while they're doing homework, etc. (Listening to classical music has a ton of benefits aside from helping them to learn music better and faster - just google it and you'll find tons of data on this.) Hope this helps!  Details of Tuition Policy: Some months there are 5 weeks, some there are 4 weeks, some there are 3 weeks. Over time, it all balances out. My basic rate is $60/hour, or $30/half hour. There are 52 weeks in a year, minus one week for the week of Christmas equals 51 weeks. 51 weeks x $30/half hour lesson = $1530/year. $1530 divided by 12 months = $127.50/month. So, it's $127.50/month for a half-hour lesson once a week, regardless of how many weeks there are in a month, including one week off for Christmas. For vacations/missed classes/illnesses/makeups: If you know you'll miss a scheduled lesson for a valid reason (i.e. family vacation, school concert, illness, etc.), let me know as far in advance as possible. If you let me know in advance, then I will do my best to reschedule that lesson. If you no-call/no-show, you forfeit that lesson and its payment, and do not get a makeup lesson or a refund. If the student is sick, and you call to let me know, I will do my best to schedule a makeup. If you no-call/no-show for any reason, you forfeit that lesson and its payment.  During the summer, we can schedule double lessons on the weeks you're here to makeup for the weeks you're gone, or have two lessons in one week - the second lesson turns into a "how to practice" session, which is always very beneficial. If I could have two or more days every week with my students it would be amazing! They would excel so fast. But that's not usually possible, so the weeks where we do a makeup and have two classes are very valuable. As a side note, I do have students that I see multiple times every week and they move at a much faster pace, so if you're interested in that let me know.  Bethaney began violin at the age of 9 in the public schools. She continued with orchestra all through her grade school years. During her junior year of high school, Bethaney was a recipient of a private lesson scholarship, to begin learning how to play Viola. In her senior year of high school, Bethaney auditioned for NAU on violin and viola. She was offered a full scholarship to study viola with Jacquelyn Schwandt at NAU. Bethaney received her Bachelor of Arts in Viola performance in May 2011 from Northern Arizona University. While studying at NAU, Bethaney worked as a general music teacher at a charter school in Flagstaff, AZ, as well as performed with the Flagstaff Symphony and Verde Valley Sinfonietta. Her performance experience has taken her all over the world, Russia, China, Austria, Germany, Australia and more. Her travels were with her High School orchestra and with the Phoenix Youth Symphony, where she played violin. Bethaney began a Saturday morning orchestra program with American Leadership Academy in 2010. After graduating from NAU she took a full time position with the school as a K-8 music teacher. In addition to teaching a middle school orchestra, she also successfully taught a middle school choir and K-5 general music. An experience in all of the arts is what Bethaney lives for. Tiffani Smith is a collaborative pianist living in Gilbert, Arizona.  With over 30 years experience she has worked with choirs, vocalists and instrumentalists from elementary to collegiate levels.  Tiffani teaches private and group lessons to students of all ages ranging from beginning to advanced levels.  Her student ensembles are a fun and exciting way to increase technical skills in note reading, rhythm and theory.

Dalene Husky has been teaching music since 1984. She has taught piano, voice, beginning guitar, choir at the elementary and secondary levels, as well as elementary general music. In her private studio, Ms. Husky has taught students from ages 4 to 88! Her bachelor’s degree came from the University of Texas at Tyler. She received a masters degree in music education from Texas Tech University. Ms. Husky is also a Kodaly certified teacher. Ms. Husky is the proud mother to her four-legged child named Rhapsody who loves to sit and listen to the piano and voice students during their lessons.

When I turned seven years old, my siblings and I were introduced to our piano teacher.  We did not want to learn piano.  Our parents insisted, so we took years of piano lessons.  These lessons led us to other instruments and other arts.  I started teaching when I was 14, and I found I loved to teach.  I made a better teacher than student!  I began to study and perform more intently.  I majored in Communication Arts at Loyola Marymount University.  I earned my certification as a piano teacher in California, and consequently became a full member of the California Music Teachers Association.  I moved to Arizona in 2000 where I joined the East Valley Music Teachers Association.  I have taught groups, semi private, and private lessons.  I teach all levels and all ages.  Since I have three boys with autism, several of my piano students have special needs.  My goal for my students is to love music, no matter their level of mastery.

I have been a piano teacher for over 15 years and a vocal coach for over 8 years.  I completed my piano pedagogy certification at MCC in 2009.  I have accompanied choirs, vocalists, and instrumentalists for over 20 years.  I currently play for the services for the Mountain View Lutheran Church in the East Valley.  I also accompany their choir and two praise groups.  I hold three recitals per year.  In my studio I have a Yamaha baby grand and a Korg keyboard, as well as high-tech video and audio record capabilities. A recent vocal student of mine won "Best Improved Vocalist" at Highland High School.  I sang with ASU's Choral Union for six years, and MCC's Schola Cantorum choir for three years.  I won the "Best Madrigal" award in high school, received the highest score in the state pf AZ in auditioning for All-state Choir.  I also accompanied numerous vocalists at MCC from 2004-2009.  I love music and I love to teach students who love music.  It's not just my profession - it's my passion!

My name is Cami Jaworski and I am passionate about music and music education. I've been teaching piano/voice and other instrumental lessons for over 20 years.  I studied piano and vocal performance at Morris Community College in New Jersey and Utah State University.  I went on to continue my studies at the Calderone School of Music in New Jersey where I went through intensive training for music pedagogy.  I have also been a conductor and an arranger of music for several church and community choirs and orchestras.  I am also the President of the Highland High School Jazz Festival.  Currently, I have decided to go back to school to finish my Music Education Degree through MCC and Ottawa University with emphasis on Jazz Studies and Conducting.  Besides the incredible amount of work I put into my studio, I think the thing that sets me apart from other teachers is the relationship that I build with my students.  My Motto is that if it's not fun, it's not worth doing. Hi, my name is Elizabeth Schrank. I have been teaching private piano lessons to children and adults since 2006. A lifelong musician, I began piano studies at the age of 3. I went on to study piano performance at Concordia University Irvine, CA and graduated summa cum laude in 2007. I have experience performing and teaching abroad in Japan, New Zealand and South Africa as well as locally in Texas and Florida. A few highlights of my musical career include studying with Dr. Kataoka & performing in the Suzuki Ten Piano Concerts in Matsumoto, Japan in 2000 and 2002, recording a CD with the Themba Choir in Dirkiesdorp, South Africa in 2009, singing with the Houston Symphony Chorus from 2011-2013, performing Bach on an all allumminum clavichord on \"The Front Row\" for Houston\'s public radio station, studying piano under Tali Morgualis at the University of Houston, accompanying the ballet studio at Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville, FL and playing keyboard in a 90s cover band. I currently reside in Mesa, Arizona and am a member of the MTNA (Music Teachers National Association) and Arizona Suzuki Association. I use a variety of methods to instill a love of piano and musicality in my students. I teach how to play both by ear using Suzuki books & CDs while simultaneously develop a strong grounding in theory and sight reading using the Alfred Premier books and supplemental materials. When I'm not teaching, I direct choir at a local church in Tempe and run a nonprofit called Elephantopia to raise awareness about elephants and the ivory trade.

She co-founded the Lamont Summer Academy in 2007, and recently retired as director of the program in 2017. Her students have garnered awards in many competitions and festivals, including the MTNA Competitions and various state and local events including the Schubert Club, Thursday Musical and Beethoven Club Auditions; the CSU-Pueblo Keyboard Arts, Quad Cities Mozart, and Northeast Missouri State Piano Festivals. Her students have performed with the Chamber Orchestra of the Springs, Des Moines Symphony, the Fort Dodge Symphony, the Minnetonka Symphony Orchestra, the Rocky Ridge Chamber Orchestra, and on “From the Top.” Additionally, her students are very active in non-competitive festivals and community outreach service performances. Ms. Shaffer has performed throughout the United States as a soloist and collaborative musician with numerous artists, including recitals with faculty from The University of Iowa, Grinnell College, Northwestern College, University of Denver Lamont School of Music, Colorado College, and with members of the Colorado Springs Philharmonic and the Colorado Symphony Orchestra. She is also an experienced adjudicator and clinician throughout the United States. Her articles on piano technique have been published in Keyboard Companion magazine. She has held several state and local offices in both the Music Teachers National Association and the National Federation of Music Clubs in Colorado, Minnesota, Iowa and Arizona, and she is currently the West Central Division Director-elect of MTNA. In 1994, she was awarded the Master Teacher Certificate by the Music Teachers National Association and was recognized as the 2019 Teacher of the Year by the Colorado State Music Teachers Association. Ms. Shaffer currently resides in Mesa, Arizona, where she maintains a private teaching and collaborative piano studio. She enjoys teaching enthusiastic young pianists of all ages and levels of ability.

I am a nationally certified teacher of music with Music Teachers National Association. I received a Bachelor of Instrumental music degree from ASU in 1971. My major instrument was piano. I have studied piano with master teachers such as Jane Tan, Francisco Aybar, Walter Cosand, Mary Pendleton, and Dan Hooper. I am a member of East Valley Music Teachers Association and Desert Vally Music Teachers Association. In addition to private lessons, I run a computer lab featuring software for ear training, theory concepts, and music history. The students have their private lesson and then afterwards, they go into the lab and do an assignment. I do one big studio recital a year in May, plus various activities sponsored by EVMTA. I have participated in the Arizona Study Program for many years. Currently I have around 12 students.

Joshua Hillmann has entertained audiences for years as both a solo and collaborative artist with his energetic and colorful musical interpretations and outstanding technical ability. He is currently an Adjunct Professor of Piano at Grand Canyon University, and a candidate for the Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) degree in piano performance at Arizona State University, studying with Dr. Baruch Meir, with whom he also earned his Master of Music Degree. This means he has completed all coursework, recitals, and all doctoral comprehensive exams required for the DMA degree in piano performance. He earned his Master of Music degree in Piano Performance at ASU, also with Dr. Meir. His Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance degree was earned at the University of Kansas, studying with Dr. Jack Winerock. His earlier musical training came from the St. Louis Symphony Music School, studying with internationally renowned artist/teacher Jane Allen. Joshua has been the recipient of numerous awards in national and international competitions. Most recently he was awarded the special prize from the National Society for Arts and Letters for the “Most Outstanding Arizona Pianist” in the 4 th BösendorferUSASU International Piano Competitionin Tempe, AZ, and was awarded 1st Place in October 2006 at the 1st WPPCPIANOvision Most Wanted Piano Competition: Etude Invitational in Atlanta, GA, was an Alternate Winner of Arizona State University's Concert of Soloists Piano Concerto Competition in 2005 in Tempe, AZ, was Winner of the 2003 Kansas City Musical Club Collegiate Piano Competition in Kansas City, MO, and was awarded 1st Place in the Kansas Music Teachers Association Collegiate Piano Competition in 2002 in Kansas City, MO, and also 1 st Runner Up in 2001. He has also performed in master classes with renowned pianists Jeremy Denk, Anne Schein, Robert Hamilton, Hugh Sung, Philip Kawin, and Arbo Valdma among others. He has also performed in chamber master classes and received coaching from the internationally acclaimed Brentano String Quartet, currently Quartet-in-Residence at Yale School of Music. He is a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music (NCTM) and is a member of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), Arizona State Music Teachers Association (ASMTA), and East Valley Music Teachers Association (EVMTA). He has performed solo recitals in St. Louis, Lawrence, KS, Kansas City, and Phoenix, and has performed as collaborative artist in South Korea with the Kansas City Chorale, and in the USA with the University of Kansas Symphony Orchestra and Wind Ensemble, and as soloist with the Arizona State University Sinfonietta. He has also been very active as a professional singer as well. He was a member of KU Jazz Singers and Chamber Choir, as well as Music Director and singer in the college a cappella group Genuine Imitation. At ASU he has been a long-time member of their choirs. He sang with the Chamber Singers and Symphonic Chorale, the Herberger Singers and Heatwave Vocal Jazz. He has appeared as bass soloist with the Phoenix Symphony with Michael Christie conducting the opera in concert "Ainadamar". He has appeared with professional choirs around the country including the Grammy-winning Phoenix Chorale, Grammy-winning Kansas City Chorale, Grammy-nominated Seraphic Fire, Grammy-nominated Tucson Chamber Artists, and Spire Chamber Ensemble, and has shared the stage with such great artists as Kitty Carlisle, Dawn Upshaw, and Kelley O'Connor. He has also appeared internationally with Ireland's National Choir, Anúna, in an extensive tour of China that culminated in a performance at the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing. He is currently a bass singer with the Grammy Award-winning Phoenix Chorale and sings several times a week at St. Barnabas on the Desert Episcopal Church in Paradise Valley.

I'm a proud native of Arizona. I attended Corona del Sol High School and Arizona State University where I met my husband, Justin. We have two amazing kids, Logan and Piper. We are very involved in the music program at our church, Dayspring United Methodist in Tempe. I have been a music educator in both Arizona charter and public schools for almost a decade. Graduating Summa Cum Laude in choral music education with an emphasis in piano from Arizona State University, I had the opportunity to study under the world-renowned pianists: Prof. Walter Cosand and Dr. Caio Pagano.  My piano career began at the age of 6 under the guidance of my late friend and mentor, Mrs. Edith Yarter. Ede, as we lovingly called her, quickly became a close friend of the family. She gave me the tools to not only read music, practice effectively, and perform, but also instilled a sense of confidence that carried me through many arduous years of practice and performance.  In middle and high school, I accompanied my school choirs as well as schools across the valley for both standard performances and competitions. The ability to accompany ignited a fire and passion for choral music. Working with great directors and choirs was a high point of my secondary and college career. 

As a retired elementary classroom and music teacher, I strive to offer a well-rounded, individualized music education to my students. Students have an hour lesson each week – one half hour of private instruction and one half hour of music lab time. In the lab, students utilize technology, games and a keyboard to reinforce many skills including note reading, rhythm, theory, music history, composition and improvisation. We also have group lessons four times per year. I encourage my students to be goal driven with a variety of fun music incentive programs. In addition to two studio recitals per year, I give my students the opportunity to participate in all five DVMTA events. I have been teaching piano since 1999.

Mengyu Liu began her music journey at the age of 5, she is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy at Arizona State University, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Piano Performance. Mengyu enjoys her career as a classical pianist, chamber musician, church pianist and educator now. Mengyu recognized her interest in teaching in 2016 while she volunteered to teach in a summer music festival for a high school in China, She also directed one piano lesson in Desert Marigold School in the same year. Then she attended the piano pedagogy studies focused on an intermediate level and successfully finished with a master class given at ASU Organ Hall. Mengyu recognizes the personalities of each student and encourages them to learn from their learning styles. She customizes each lesson from students’ goals of learning piano, gets them well-rounded musicianship from playing, ear-training, and their own tastes in music.

Tabitha Kaminski was born and raised in Buffalo, NY. She has been classically trained in piano since the age of 9. During her beginner years, Tabitha studied piano and theory with pedagogue Mary Lou Edgecomb, and later transferred to her sister, concert pianist and music director, Annette Masterson, to study piano performance. In high school, Tabitha had the honor of studying under Dr. Gary Fisher at The Eastman School of Music and at Nazareth College in Rochester, NY. During this time, she performed and competed extensively throughout Western NY, gave concerts at local churches and retirement homes, and was a special guest on Tri-State Christian Television's live show "Celebrate," where she performed an original composition.When Tabitha began teaching at the young age of 15, she immediately fell in love with it as a career. After moving to Arizona to attend college, she continued giving piano lessons in students' homes throughout the Phoenix metro area. During this time, she met her future husband, Mike Kaminski, who was a keyboardist in a local Christian rock band. After 2 years of college-level training in classical piano performance, she took some time off from school to get married and focus on teaching fulltime.A year later, Tabitha and Mike founded KaminsKEYS Piano Studio (now called East Valley School of Music) and quickly grew the business from 20 students to 60 students in less than 2 years. During this time, they also became actively involved in the East Valley Music Teachers Association, participating and chairing various local events throughout the year. In the fall of 2008, Tabitha became a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music (NCTM) through the Music Teachers National Association.During the past years, Tabitha has been privileged to study under the tutelage of Dr. Judy Lively, Dr. Andrea Fennig, Dr. Walter Cosand, Professor Ashley Bradford, and Professor Ruth Yandell. She is currently finishing her Bachelor's Degree in Piano Performance at Grand Canyon University under the instruction of Dr. Juan Hernandez, and is set to graduate in the spring of 2012.

I began my love & exploration of music in childhood with over a decade of piano & dance lessons. As a mother, I combined rhyming & movement and created Exercise Rhymes™, a program to encourage rhythm & movement in children. I have many years of experience teaching children music & movement. My own wonderful first-hand experience as a parent of a Let’s Play Music student has inspired me to help other children experience the power of this curriculum in developing their lifelong musical abilities starting at ages 4-6 years. I love to play piano and sing, and I'm excited to expand the Let's Play Music program in South Chandler.

I run my own school and have been doing so for nearly four years. I\'m a part of the ASU music program and love teaching kids! I\'ve had great success with students; even those who have never even touched the piano. I\'ve taught students ranging from 4-40 years old. Originally from northern New Jersey, I have recently relocated to Chandler, off of Riggs Road. I have taught students from 5 years old through adult age for 44 years. I have been teaching piano for 25 years from children aged 4 and a half to adults of all levels, beginning to advanced. I am a graduate of the Conservatorio Nacional de Musica in Mexico City, graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Piano Pedagogy. I took advanced piano courses at the University of Maryland School of Music and took piano lessons under the guidance of Robert Dumm. Music is my passion, and I love to teach it.

I have many years of teaching and accompaning experience.  While teaching in California for 33 years, I had students who won many awards, and several studied through their senior year of high school.  Here in Arizona, I enjoy my affiliation with DVMTA and EVMTA and encourage my students to participate in several of the events sponsored by these groups.  My goal is to help my students love music and learn to play well enough that they will want to play for a lifetime.  Adults only please.

I have moved from Scottsdale where my students, known as the McDowell Mountain Musicians, enjoyed learning to play the piano and mastering their favorite songs (solos and duets) for performances at various senior residences throughout their city.  The children feft a sense of accomplishment as well as feeling proud that they were able to "give back" to their community through their music. Hello! My name is Brooke Barker and I love music! I love to teach music, listen to music, and play music. I have played the piano for over 25 years and taught the piano for 13! Our family just relocated from Utah where I left behind 25 wonderful students. Some of those I watched blossom on the piano from age 6 to age 19 when they left for college! I love seeing the self esteem learning a musical instrument brings. Along with learning should come lots of fun, and a reward base system that even the most uncooperative child can be swayed into learning. I believe in the benefits of music learning. When learning a musical instrument you not only learn a skill that you will have for the rest of your life, but the student learns determination, organization, and self confidence. At Brooke's piano studio the student has the opportunity to play in at least 2 recitals each year, participate in group based activities quarterly, and have a weekly lesson planned for them individually. Pianist Soo Yoen Kim enjoys a diverse career as a soloist, chamber musician, accompanist, orchestral player, and music educator. She has performed recitals at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall and Steinway Hall in New York and Centennial Hall in Tucson. She was one of the soloists of the Chopin 200th Anniversary Gala Concert at the World Financial Center, New York, and the opening concert at the Lucca Music Festival in Italy. She won the First Prize in the American Protégé International Piano Competition 2014 at Carnegie Hall in New York. In 2012, her performance at the International Bösendorfer Piano Competition was broadcast live on NPR Arizona Public Media. She is the Second Prize Winner of the Louis Trester Competition 2013, Arizona, and the winner of the Duquesne’s Concerto Competition 2011. Before coming to the United States, she was the First Prize winner at the Korean Youth Piano Competitions. Soo Yoen received a Bachelor’s degree in Music from Yonsei University, Korea, a Master’s degree in Music from the Mannes School of Music, the New School, New York, and an Artist Diploma from Duquesne University, Pittsburgh. Soo Yoen is currently finishing a doctoral degree at the University of Arizona. She worked as a teaching assistant at Duquesne University and the University of Arizona, and as an accompanist for the University of Arizona Opera Production, and Arizona Choir. She was invited to and participated in masterclasses given by world-class pianists such as Richard Goode, Murray Perahia, Oxana Yablonskaya, and Stephen Kovacevich.

Marcia Havlovic received her Bachelors Degree in Education with a major in Music from Calvin College, Grand Rapids, MI and began working on her Masters in Music Education from ASU. Mrs. Havlovic has been teaching piano lessons for over 25 years, as well as being a music educator for over 15 years. She was the choral, instrumental and general music teacher at Phoenix Christian School K-8 for 5 years, a middle school Band director in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL for 4 years and has continued to teach piano privately as well. Now, a full-time piano instructor with a studio in the Marbella Vineyards, Mrs. Havlovic loves being involved in many of the events of the East Valley Music Teachers Association with her students. Mrs. Havlovic is also very proficient in all woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments and offers private lesson on those instruments for beginning/intermediate band students.

Natalya is a professional musician and piano teacher. She has been immersed in Music since the age of five when she started taking lessons in piano and music theory. As her love and passion for music grew, she attended State Music School from the age of eight to fifteen to continue to study piano, voice, cello, history of music and went on to graduate from State Music College and State Conservatory in Ukraine where she received her Master of Music Degree in piano pedagogy and performance. Natalya began her teaching and performing career in Ukraine and moved to Dubai in 2000. There she taught piano and musicianship privately and at several GEMS schools (GEMS Education is British Curriculum based international education company). She has guided many students through successful concert performances and range of international exams, including ABRSM and Trinity College London. Natalya is also an experienced and versatile performer, having worked as a resident pianist and chamber ensemble artist at some of the most popular and exclusive venues in Dubai. Classical, jazz, pop and rock styles are all part of her repertoire. In 2017 Natalya relocated with her family to Gilbert, Arizona. Currently successfully running large piano studio.She is a member of Music Teachers National Association, Arizona Music Teachers Association, East Valley Music Teachers Association and preparing students for Arizona State Program exams. Dr. Radmila Stojanovic-Kiriluk is a Serbian – American pianist from Arizona. She is an active performer, teacher, editor, and lecturer. She studied with piano teachers of diverse music backgrounds, completed Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Belgrade, Serbia, and later graduated with a DMA in Piano Performance at Arizona State University. Radmila currently teaches at Mesa Community College, regularly adjudicates piano competitions, exams, and festivals and currently serves as the president of the East Valley Music Teachers Association.

Daniel Fletcher has had a distinguished career in the piano world as a performer, college professor, and muscal mentor to hundreds of pianists nationally and around the world. The Music Teachers National Association bestowed the classification of Master Teacher upon Professor Fletcher in 1987. This award is based upon excellence in performance, teaching, and service. Upon retirement from college teaching in 2002 from the University of Memphis, Daniel Fletcher was awarded the title of Professor Emeritus. Professor Fletcher currently maintains a private studio in Ahwatukee with his wife Catherine, former director of the Herberger Institute Community School for Design and the Arts and Founding Executive Director of the Bosendorfer-Schimmel piano competition at Arizona State University, among other notable accomplishments.

Catherine Fletcher holds the Bachelor of Music and Master of Arts degrees in piano performance. She has taught piano and music theory at the college level as well as to children of all ages and skill levels. Ms. Fletcher is currently accepting students in her Ahwatukee family-owned piano studio.

Vicki teaches traditional and Suzuki piano lessons, traveling to the student's home to teach!!! Vicki Seil received a Bachelor of Music degree in 1980 from Elmhurst College where she studied piano pedagogy and music education. In 1982, she began studying The Suzuki Piano Method and had extensive training every year from 1990-2003 with Dr. Haruko Kataoka, co-founder of The Suzuki Piano Method. From 1999-2003, Vicki and a few of her students traveled to Matsumoto, Japan to study and participate in the 10 Piano Concerts. Vicki served as president as well as treasurer and workshop director for many years in the piano chapter of Valley of the Sun Suzuki Association and Suzuki Association of Arizona and also served as vice president of Desert Valley Music Teachers Association. Vicki's work with children has been highlighted in Raising Arizona Kids magazine (cover article) and she has been interviewed by the Arizona Republic for three separate articles. Karen McCann has performed as a soloist and collaborative pianist throughout Canada, the United States, and Europe.  She has served as a vocal coach and pianist for the Taos Opera Institute (Taos, NM), AIMS in Graz (Austria), the CoOPERAtive program (Princeton, NJ), and most recently in July 2015, the Institute for Young Dramatic Voices (Reno, NV) headed by famed mezzo-soprano Dolora Zajick.  Raised in Vancouver, Canada, Karen earned her doctoral degree in Collaborative Piano at Arizona State University.  Karen has had the pleasure of playing in the voice studios of Sharon Sweet, Margaret Cusack, and Luana Devol, among many others, and has performed in masterclasses conducted by Jennifer Larmore, Julianne Baird, and the Tokyo String Quartet.  Her major teachers include Andrew Campbell, Russell Ryan, J.J. Penna, and Dalton Baldwin.  Dr. McCann has served on the faculties of Westminster Choir College, Arizona State University, and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.  She recently relocated to Phoenix, AZ and has enjoyed pursuing her love of the outdoors in the southwest desert.

Performer Over my career, I have performed with such respected professional orchestras as the Cincinnati Pops, Charlotte Symphony, Baltimore Opera Orchestra and Mexico City Philharmonic. Before moving to Arizona, I was quite active performing with the Charlotte Symphony, having given over 300 performances with this ensemble. I have performed many times with the South Carolina Philharmonic and Symphony Orchestra Augusta. I carry this experience into every lesson I teach, both on piano and horn. Teacher I have extensive experience teaching both piano and french horn. I have taught piano students at all ages from Kindergarten to retirees. Before coming to Arizona, I served as interim horn professor at the University of South Carolina School of Music. I previously served as Instructor of Horn at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, maintaining a studio of 8-10 students as well as giving solo recitals. Since moving to the Carolinas in 1999 I have been teaching piano and horn while performing professionally. I have built a successful studio that has seen many students make the South Carolina All-State Band and Orchestra, including four first-chair placements. A number of these students went on to receive scholarships to attend music schools, including the University of South Carolina, Furman, St. Olaf College and Princeton University. Education I hold three degrees in music: a Bachelors from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a Master’s from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory and a Graduate Performance Certificate from the prestigious Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University. Hello!  My name is Cheryl Langley and I am a new piano teacher in Scottsdale!  I am thrilled to teach piano here and make new friends!  My life at the piano includes playing for many church functions, school choirs, a show choir, high school theatre, and competitions at local and state levels.  I have actively taught piano for thirteen years.  During this time I have witnessed the transformation of students who could not play the piano into accompanists, composers, and performers.  I believe that music is a “living art” that must be shared and felt.   My goal is to help students find the music inside them and share it with others.  Students in my studio will explore different musical styles such as, but not limited to, contemporary, classical, jazz, blues and choose those they enjoy.  They will also practice sight reading and ear training in  a computer lab.  Recitals and group performances will provide students a chance to share with others.    I hold a bachelors degree in Elementary Education and a license to teach.  Professionally I belong to the Music Teachers National Association and its affiliate the Phoenix Music Teachers Association.  Before moving to Scottsdale, I served as a chapter president of the Utah Music Teachers Association for three years.   As a member of MTNA I am able to attend workshops and conferences with talented pianists and musicians.  My membership also gives students access to performances, recitals and adjudications.  I also belong to the National Federation of Music Clubs.  This gives students an opportunity to develop performance skills in a non-competitive environment.  Currently, I am pursuing an Elementary Piano Pedagogy Certificate from Mesa Community College.   I welcome all students eager to learn and willing to practice, ages 6 to adult, beginners to early advanced players.  I believe piano lessons should be engaging and  fun with a commitment to work.  My studio includes two pianos with a computer lab ready to serve to you!  Come check it out!

Originally from Buffalo NY, Henry has been teaching piano for over a decade. He has experience playing with major orchestras such as the Buffalo Philharmonic. Henry first started playing the piano at the age of 3, and considers the piano to be an extension of himself. He is classically trained yet is open to any and all forms of music.

I have many years of teaching experience. I am a member of the Music Teachers National Association, The American College of Musicians, and the Phoenix Music Teachers Association. My students are given the opportunity to participate in the Phoenix Piano Ensemble, the National Guild of Student Musicians and the Heintz Piano Studio recitals. Kirk’s Studio for the Performing Arts was founded by Kirk Taylor, a professional musician and teacher since 1986, in 2002 and started in the living room of Kirk and Pam’s small home. Born in Hong Kong, Dr. Mandarin G. Cheung-Yueh holds degrees in performance and pedagogy from Arizona State University and the University of Houston, as well as diplomas in piano performance from Trinity College of Music, London. She has won numerous piano competitions and performed with orchestras. She has served on selection committees for scholarships, research grants, as well as on governing boards of professional music organizations. An independent piano teacher for 35 years and a current board member of the Arizona Piano Institute, Dr. Cheung-Yueh has served on the piano faculty at Rosie’s House (2019), a community music school serving under-privileged pre-collegiate students in the Metropolitan-Phoenix area and has also taught high-school piano (2016-2018) and designed its curriculum for Arizona School for the Arts. Dr. Cheung-Yueh has written for Keyboard Companion (now Clavier Companion) and regularly adjudicates competitions, conducts master classes, and presents workshops at music teachers associations, including the Music Teachers National Association Convention. Her students have also won awards in various competitions and performed with orchestras. Dr. Cheung-Yueh was President (1991-1997) and co-founder of the Young Artist Committee, a non-profit organization which now, in partnership with ASU’s Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts, presents the biennial Bösendorfer and Yamaha USASU International Piano Competitions as well as The Angelo and Micheline Addona Arizona Young Artist Piano Competition.

Dr. Garinée Garmanian Jording has owned and operated an independent piano studio in the Phoenix metropolitan area for the past ten years. Kevin Gorman holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Arizona State University and a Master of Music degree in saxophone performance from Northwestern University. A repeated winner in the prestigious Monterey Bay and Coleman chamber music competitions, Dr. Gorman has performed as orchestral saxophonist with the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra, the Las Vegas Philharmonic, the Arizona Musicfest Orchestra, the Sun City Symphony, the Mesa Symphony, the Sierra Vista Symphony, the ASU Symphony Orchestra, the Arizona Musicfest Orchestra, and the West Valley Symphony, in addition to guest soloist appearances with the Sonoran Desert Chorale and the Sierra Winds Woodwind Quintet. His playing can be heard on seven compact discs on the Summit Records and TimeGrabber Digital labels, and he is the featured alto, tenor, and baritone saxophone soloist on the companion discs to the internationally released Standard of Excellence: Festival Solos series (Book 2). For well over a decade, he has performed across the United States as baritone and tenor saxophonist with the Joseph Wytko Saxophone Quartet -- a critically acclaimed ensemble that was selected for broadcast on National Public Radio's Performance Today, among many other accolades. Dr. Gorman has served as the instructor of saxophone at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and several schools in the Phoenix Metro area, including Grand Canyon University and Southwestern College.Weekly one-hour or 30-minute lessons feature a complement of scales and scale patterns, technical and expressive etudes, and both transcriptions and original literature for the instrument. Emphasis is on the alto saxophone, for which most saxophone literature is composed. However, students of the soprano, tenor, or baritone saxophones will receive specialized study, with lessons focused on the specifics of their instrument. Jazz instruction (swing, latin, rock, etc.) emphasizes style by means of articulation, inflection, and interpretation, gained through careful listening and imitation. Lessons are typically structured and paced to prepare students for eventual entry into college-level study in saxophone. However, serious beginners, including adults, are encouraged to inquire about lesson availability as well. High school aged students most often audition for Arizona Regional, Solo and Ensemble, and All-State Festivals. Alexa has been learning piano for over a decade and she has been teaching for four years! Alexa's piano playing has been judged at Guild in 2018 and she received the highest score of a "Superior Plus"! Susan Shiner is an independent music teacher in the North Phoenix Area. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education, having taught private piano for over 34 years, and also has a background of public school instruction, choral directing and music theater. Originally from Buffalo, New York, Shalvi D’Arcangelo has been a pianist for over 20 years and a music educator, fostering innovation and creativity for levels K-12, university and adults. Shalvi holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education (Concentrations in Piano, Piano Pedagogy, and Special Music Education) from the Crane School of Music, State University of New York College at Potsdam and a Master of Music in Piano Pedagogy and Performance from the Glenn Korff School of Music, University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Deborah has served as the Ritz-Carlton Music Director in Phoenix, as well as having played at Ritz-Carltons and Hyatt-Regencies elsewhere in America. Elise Roginiel began her musical training at the age of seven with a convent sister. She participated in the annual Piano Student Auditions and was the first student musician to receive the special High School Diploma in Music in the agricultural county of Ventura, California. Continuing her musical studies at the University of San Francisco, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music with an emphasis in Piano Performance. Ms. Roginiel has taught classical and jazz piano for over thirty years. She is a member of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), the Phoenix Music Teachers Association (PMTA), and the National Guild of Piano Teachers (NGPT). Over the years, many students have been motivated to pursue a professional career in the field of music. Born in Miami, FL and growing up in central FL, he has traveled to Europe and South America and had the privilege of studying abroad at The National Conservatory of Argentina under head piano professor Sr. Arabián. Having had much success in teaching piano, Richie has had the pleasure of seeing many former students go on to follow their dreams of performing piano and teaching. Richie Russo has played in several bands, most notably Isle of Essence where his music composition flourished. Hello! I’m Richard and I have been teaching piano for many years. I was fortunate to study piano and theory with fine piano teachers in Southern California. I was later privileged to study organ with world-renowned organist and composer Richard Purvis. Later in my career, I received a teaching credential in general music at Rio Salado College and taught music in an elementary school. This broad training and experience have given me effective skills in teaching children, though I teach all ages. I have served as organist and choir accompanist at my church for many years. I also create music lesson plans that have been bought by teachers all over the world. I’m excited to share with you the Accelerated Piano Program. Brian grew up in a musical household and first picked up piano when he was 6 years old. His next instrument was a drum set. He has been playing percussion and drum set for 15 years and has been teaching for 9 years. He spent two years as the Percussion Caption Head for Cathedral City High School Royal Regiment band program where he taught drumline and percussion and oversaw the drumline instructional staff. He spent three years as the school's Front Ensemble Percussion Director and Arranger. He has also served as director of percussion for James Workman Middle School, and done drumline clinic work with various middle schools and high schools in California and Arizona.Brian has been a part of three Drum Corps International world championship groups in 2004, 2006, and 2007. He has been a part of the GROOVE Percussion Ensemble, played drum set and guitar for various musical theatre productions, performed with Riverside City College's award winning Wind Ensemble and Percussion Ensemble, and played with numerous jazz combos. Not forgetting the giving and altruistic nature of music, Jimmy also makes time to direct a volunteer community choir that performs at fundraisers, rallies, holiday festivals, and solemn religious services.  Jimmy Davis is currently the Assistant Music Director and Music Teacher at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and School.
