SHORT BIO
Dr. Jelena Vladikovic, NCTM brings performing and pedagogical experience from four universities, three countries and two continents. She began concert career at 15 after winning the most prestigious national piano competition, after which she went on to win several national and international piano competitions. She regularly tours in Europe, Canada and the US, and appeared on radio and television. Her performing excellence was recognized by Kawai US and Kawai Canada with a title, Kawai Artist.
Scholarships for excellence took her to some of the world's most eminent schools and teachers:
- Evgeni Timakin (Moscow Central Music School),
- Pavel Serbryakov (Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory, St. Petersburg, Russia),
- Guido Agosti (Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Rome, Italy),
- Francois Glorieux (Royal Conservatory, Antwerpen, Belgium), and
- Robert Silverman (UBC, Vancouver, Canada)
Dr. Vladikovic, a nationally certified music teacher, is the recipient of numerous awards for her pedagogical work including the ASU Teaching Excellence Award and the ASU Disability Resource Center Award for her work with gifted students with learning disabilities, which is also the focus of her pioneering research and doctoral dissertation. Royal Conservatory Music Development Program awarded her the Founding Teacher designation for her "contribution to establishing a national standard for developing musicians in the US." In addition to the MTNA certification, Royal Conservatory of Music has also awarded her a professional designation as a Certified Piano Teaching Specialist for all levels, from beginner to advanced.
Dr. Vladikovic is a regularly invited to presenterand/or perform at the local, state, national, international, and world conferences. They include: MTNA, ASMTA, World Piano Teachers Association, The American Musicological Society and the Society for Music Theory, The Society for Ethnomusicology, The College Music Society International Conference, and she frequently conducts professional development seminars in the US and Canada.
Dr. Vladikovic is currently on the piano faculty at the Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, where she serves as a subject matter expert for piano and piano pedagogy, and teaches piano performance, piano pedagogy, piano literature, and class piano. Although widely sought as a piano teacher, she maintains only a small private studio, with students traveling weekly from across the state to study with her.
