Angelica M. Prado-Stern, raised in Miami, Florida, started taking lessons at age 7. She studied piano through grade school and like most young pianists, aspired to be a musician. She moved to Tucson, AZ in 1987 to pursue her music studies. In 1990, she was awarded an accompanying scholarship to Northern Arizona University, where she earned a Bachelor in Piano Performance and gained teaching experience through the Preparatory School of Music. During her Prep School experience, Angelica discovered her strong interest in teaching. Upon her graduation in 1994, she moved to Phoenix and joined the faculty at Music Works Academy, where she worked for 10 years. During her time at Music Works Academy, she taught on average 55 students per week, and gained experience in teaching a variety of ages and skill levels, managing and maintaining a private music studio, and developing student curriculums. In 2005, Angelica received her Masters in Educational Psychology from Arizona State University, where she focused on learning through the lifespan and self-regulation as it applies to piano instruction, and in 2008 earned her certification of National Certified Teacher of Music from The Music Teacher's National Association. She opened her private piano studio in 2005. She is currently a member of the Phoenix Music Teachers Association, where she is serving on the Ensemble Committee and on the faculty at Arizona School for the Arts. She studied piano with Carol Rhodes, Dr. Frank Scott, Gene Pickens, and Stella Saperstein. In addition, Angelica has studied the Alexander Technique with Harriet Harris and body mechanics with Terri Roach of Body Stabilization. The goals of Angelica's Piano Studio are to provide a positive professional attitude and a nurturing, supportive environment suitable for learning and the enjoyment of music. Her program includes a balance of theory, functional playing, sight-playing, and ear training, while incorporating a variety of musical styles. Students have the opportunity to perform in 2 recitals per year, adjudications Arizona Study Program and PMTA Events. Angelica believes that her job as a teacher is to expose students to a variety of music and musical styles, to teach them about the process of making and interpreting music, and to provide skills in order for them to become mature, self-directed, creative individuals. Learning to play the piano can be enjoyable and fulfilling for a lifetime, but the first step to success begins with the collaborative effort of all involved: parent, student and teacher. Angelica resides in Avondale with two cats: Skittles and Sasha. Besides playing the piano, Angelica enjoys baking, reading, jogging, scrap-booking/calligraphy, and ballroom dancing.
